COVID-19 Update

In response to the government of Ontario’s declaration of a state of emergency, for the protection of our members and athletic community, P.W.S.A. will be extending the current suspension of all activities until April 19, 2020.  Softball Ontario is also suspending all clinics until April 19, 2020.

We will re-evaluate circumstances based on a two-week time period. Email messages will continue to be monitored and we will endeavor to provide support to our members as best we can in the weeks to come.

We also will be reviewing our affiliation and signing deadline dates at our upcoming April board meeting.  In the meantime, for any questions you may have on affiliations, please contact the Association Registrar at affiliations@pwsaontario.com.

We thank everyone for their understanding and support as we navigate through this very tough and challenging time for all.

Debbie Malisani
President, Provincial Women’s Softball Association

Taking care of our athletic community is at the center of everything we do, and as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact our communities, we want to share the steps we are taking to keep our members and our communities safe.

Due to the most recent advisories from the Medical Officers of Health, the government and its various ministries, P.W.S.A. has determined it will suspend all practices, clinics, camps, indoor tournaments and tryouts until April 5th.  We will continue to assess as the pandemic evolves and may extend beyond that date.

At present, we will not be issuing any travel permits and have suspended all those permits already issued until further notice.

We will not be issuing any further insurance certificates, team and third party until further notice.

Softball Ontario and Softball Canada have suspended the delivery of CanPitch, Coaching and Umpire clinics until April, they too will be reassessing as the situation evolves.

What does this mean to you?

We expect all Associations and teams to cease practices, games and workouts of any kind until we advise resumption of sanctioning.

We will not be making a determination as to cancelling any Provincial Championships at this time, as our first event is not until July 3rd.

We expect all associations and teams to ensure any persons, parents, players, coaches, admin personnel follow the required 14 day self isolation upon return from any other country.

Can you practice at a private facility? No – this suspension of activities is for all teams, all ages and all venues.

Will this exempt you from coaching certification?  At this time clinics are suspended, not cancelled, and as such we will wait to see if the clinics become available before making that determination.  In terms of coaches seeking an exemption for the OFE, we will not be offering exemptions at this time as there are still lots of opportunities thru May and June to get those completed.

If you proceed with a non sanctioned activity, please understand your insurance will not be in effect.

Please visit our COVID-19 Information page frequently as we are updating as appropriate and will be adding a FAQ section. If you have any questions, please contact P.W.S.A. President, Debbie Malisani, at littlehands1@rogers.com
