New COVID-19 Measures – March 1, 2021

New COVID-19 Restrictions (framework) for “Organized” Sport in Ontario – Effective March 1, 2021

Please note these numbers below are for “Organized Sport” and not for the facility owners.

A facility may have a gym, several classrooms (5), weight rooms (2) a field. In the Green and Yellow regions, a facility in the above example would be allowed 90 persons inside. In this same example we would not be allowed 90 participants.

Should your region move into grey or stay at home your insurance will be suspended immediately.


Green Prevent

Grey Bruce Health Unit, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit, Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Health Unit, Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, Renfrew County and District Health Unit and Timiskaming Health Unit.

Sport classes/training, limited to 50 indoors and 100 outdoors, must limit close contact and limit cohorts to 50, wellness check, modify to avoid physical contact. Limit volume of music/require use of microphone where needed to avoid shouting. Masks mandatory at all times.


Yellow Protect

Algoma Public Health,  Haldimand – Norfolk Health Unit, Huron Perth Public Health, Northwestern Health Unit, and Peterborough Public Health. 

Sport classes/training, 3-meter distancing, limited to 10 indoors and 25 outdoors, must limit close contact, wellness check, modify to avoid close contact, avoid shouting. 

Masks mandatory at all times.

Must make a reservation (one per team)

Contact tracing required


Orange Restrict

Brant County Public Health Unit, Chatham- Kent Public Health, Eastern Ontario Health Unit,  Haliburton, Kawartha, Middlesex – London Health Unit, Pine Ridge District Health Unit,  Lambton Health Unit, Ottawa Public Health, Porcupine Health Unit, and Public Health Sudbury and districts, Southwestern Public Health. 

Sport classes/training, 3-meter distancing, limited to 10 indoors and 25 outdoors, must limit close contact. Maximum of 50 in a facility, limits on stays (e.g. 90 minutes), no spectators, wellness check, modify to avoid close contact, avoid shouting.

Masks mandatory at all times

Must make a reservation (one per team) Contact tracing required


Red Control

Durham Region Health Department, Halton Region Health Department, Hamilton Public Health Services, Niagara Region Public Health, Region of Waterloo Health,  Wellington- Dufferin-Guelph Regions, Windsor Essex County Health, and York Region Public Health.

Sport classes/training, 3-meter distancing, limited to 10 indoors and 25 outdoors, maximum of 50 in a facility, must limit close contact, wellness check, modify to limit close contact. Limits on stays (eg. 90 minutes), no spectators, and only training for teams, no scrimmages/games.

Masks mandatory at all times

Must make a reservation (one per team)

Contact tracing required


Grey Lockdown

Simcoe Muskoka District, Thunder Bay District Health

 Sport is closed for Indoor and outdoor athletes/teams


Stay at Home

North Bay Parry Sound District Health, Peel Public Health, Toronto Public Health.

Sports – closed


Note: In addition to the measures shown in the link on our website, the Province has implemented and recommended additional measures.

Among those additional measures is the recommendation that residents only interact with those in their own household and travel within Ontario be limited to essential reasons only. Softball is not considered essential. As required by the Legislation Ontario Reg 263/20 Schedule 1.2.2 we will ensure compliance with the regulation. As such those teams and athletes in Toronto, North Bay Parry Sound, Region of Peel, Simcoe Muskoka and Thunder Bay have Softball Activities suspended until further notice.

Ontario Reg 263/20 1.2.2 The person responsible for a business or organization that is open shall operate the business or organization in compliance with the advice, recommendations and instructions of public health officials, including any advice, recommendations or instructions on physical distancing, cleaning or disinfecting.

Please continue to respect the restrictions for the area in which you live and remember you cannot travel to an area with lower restrictions in order to participate in softball activities.

Travel within Ontario

Individuals and families in higher transmission areas should avoid travel to lower transmission areas (for example, from red to orange, from yellow to green), except for essential reasons.
